Continuing Our Coral Reef Recovery Efforts In Typhoon-Damaged Reefs

To continue our efforts in contributing to the coral reef recovery in Apo Island Marine Sanctuary (AIMS), more reef fish recovery tools, in the form of fish habitats, were deployed last March 10, 2016. These simple dome-shaped fish habitat modules were fabricated and designed by the Dive Rangers and carpenters of Apo Island made up of limestone rocks available along the shores of the island, cemented together.

CCEF celebrates The International Day of Action for Rivers

In celebration of the International Day of Action for Rivers, CCEF highlights Cotcot River, a river shared by the upland and lowland communities in the municipalities of Liloan and Compostela in the province of Cebu. The river is a source of fresh water, transports and provides organic nutrients to the coasts. Like many other rivers and tributaries in the country today, Cotcot River faces the most common threat: pollution. Whatever is thrown down the river ends up downstream and finds its way to the coast.

In 2009, the leaders of the six countries that make up the Coral Triangle – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste – came together to launch the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF), a joint commitment to ensure that the region’s unparalleled marine resources and coastal systems thrive well into the future. Alan White will discuss the progress made, especially on climate change adaptation.
