CCEF Collaborative Research

Organizations, either located in the Philippines or outside, partner with CCEF in conducting researches. These organizations know that CCEF have the logistical support and manpower required to undertake comprehensive field work in the areas of marine sociology, IEC (information, education and communication), and marine policy.

Project description

The are the recently conducted collaborative researches with CCEF.

Building Actors and Leaders for Advancing Community Excellence in Development (BALANCED) - is a five- year population, health and environment (PHE) technical initiative led by the Coastal Resources Center at the University of Rhode Island (URI) in collaboration with PATH Foundation Philippines Inc. (PFPI) supported by the USAID. BALANCED PHE approaches included: “(1) Increasing the PHE knowledge base and making information more accessible to and user-friendly for diverse and widespread audiences; (2) building the capacity of field practitioners, policy makers, decision makers and other PHE professionals to use state of the art techniques and approaches at local, regional, national and international scales; and (3) fostering implementation of field-based PHE initiatives in areas of high biodiversity. CCEF’s role was to examine the impacts and lessons learned from BALANCED in communities where implemented (i.e., in the provinces of Batangas, Leyte, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro and Bohol). The Principal Investigator of this project is Dr. Richard Pollnac of URI.

An Evaluation of the Tubbataha Management Office’s Information, Education, and Communications (IEC) School Visits - The Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park Management Office (TMO) approached CCEF to assist them in evaluating their information, education, and communications (IEC) campaigns, in 11 targeted schools and villages in Palawan. This information will then be used to help them draft the IEC plan/section for 5-year TMO management plan.

United States Coral Triangle Initiative USA Learning Project (USCTI-LP) -this learning project investigated the lessons learned, results and outcomes of the 5-year US CTI Support Program. The University of Washington (PI: Dr. Patrick Christie) and the University of Rhode Island (Dr. Richard Pollnac) supported by WWF implemented the LP through the Research Unit of CCEF in 3 provinces (Batangas, Palawan and Occidental Mindoro) . The results of the LP are documented in a project report by Christie et al. (2014)
