Fluor Philippines joined CCEF again in the celebration of the International Coastal Clean-up in last September 16, 2016 along the mangrove rehabilitation area in Barangay Cotcot, Liloan.
The first partnership with Fluor Philippines and CCEF for ICC was in September 2015, in Barangay Calero, another mangrove rehabilitation area of the Municipality of Liloan. Trash were collected and recorded by volunteers using Ocean Conservancy’s data forms.

This year, volunteers also used “Clean Swell”, Ocean Conservancy’s mobile data collection app. to record each item of trash collected. The app was a fast way of reporting the amount of trash collected since the data can directly be uploaded to the website (http://www.oceanconservancy.org/). Brands of the different plastic wrappers were also recorded.

About 26 sacks of garbage was collected ranging from plastic wrappers, plastic bags, plastic and glass bottles, fishing nets, clothes, and the back portion of a TV. A majority of the trash collected were food wrappers. There is still a need to spread awareness and educate the local community and local officials regarding the proper disposal of everyday used products, particularly food products, and more eco-friendly ways of packaging these products.
